CALDWELL COUNTY G.O.P. THROWS SUPPORT BEHIND JONES
IN 2010 SHERIFF'S RACE

The executive committee of the Caldwell County Republican Party has thrown it's support in the 2010 sheriff's race to Alan Jones.

During its regularly scheduled meeting earlier this week, the committee took an extraordinary step in endorsing Jones as the Republican Party's candidate for the primary in May 2010, adopting a resolution showing that support.

During Tuesday's meeting the executive committee adopted the following resolution in support of Jones.  That resolution, read by former party chairman Walt Land, stated:

"Whereas Alan Jones was selected to become sheriff of Caldwell County, after agreeing to seek election to that position, by overwhelming support of the Caldwell County Republican Party Executive Committee and hence has lead that department with honor, integrity, professionalism and a strong commitment to the community, thus demonstrating his strong leadership that cannot, nor should not, be denied, it is resolved and accepted that he is the Caldwell County Sheriff and deserving of the full support of the Caldwell County Republican Party now and through any election, Primary or General, both with our voices and funds.

Be it further resolved that keeping Sheriff Jones in his current position is in the best interest of the party and his department, but more importantly, in the best interest of Caldwell County and its citizens.

Whereas Sheriff Jones made a total commitment to serve this county, now is the time for all our citizens and this party to stand behind him in his endeavor to continue to keep the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office as the example to the rest of North Carolina."

Land made the motion to accept the resolution, and it was seconded by former chairman Bill Stone and G.O.P. Man of the Year Jack Martin.  Following little debate, the resolution, dated July 14th, 2009, was adopted by the committee, and signed by Ron Roukema and party secretary Gary Whisnant.

Jones said the announcement of the resolution in support by the party was a shot in the arm.

"It's been a difficult term, but I think I've proven that I can do this job,"  he said.  "This act shows the confidence they have in me to be sheriff.  It makes me want to do my job even more and make the party proud, as well as the citizens of this county."
